What are some of the benefits of yoga?
Yoga builds strength and flexibility. It also makes us more aware of our breath, which ultimately helps to relax and calm the body and mind. People who practice regularly often notice that they are happier, have better focus, and are more able to handle the stresses of everyday life.
I’m the least flexible person in the entire world…
We’ve definitely heard that before! Being the least flexible person in the entire world is the best reason to try a Manhattan class! But really, don’t worry if you can’t touch your toes or balance on one foot – flexibility will come with time. You don’t have to be flexible to try your first class.
What should I expect my first time?
Please arrive 15 minutes before class so we can sign you in and familiarize you with the studio. If you would like a more in-depth studio tour, please call and one can be arranged.
What should I wear?
Wear something that you feel comfortable in that is easy to move around in. You will probably sweat a lot, so lightweight, breathable materials that will absorb sweat and dry quickly are best. Shorts or leggings, a tee-shirt or a tank top are all great options.
What should I bring?
You’ll need a water bottle for class. You might also want a mat towel, depending on how much you sweat. We have filtered water available at the studio so BYOB – bring your own sustainable bottle! We also recommend bringing a change of clothes for after class.
Is there a water fountain?
Yes, in the back by the yoga room. We provide an endless supply of Tae Cho water, whose purity is achieved after passing through four external filters for purification and activation. Instead of going through electrolysis, our drinkable water is delivered into a 9–stage bedrock water generation systemin. This helps the water to achieve an alkalinity between pH 8 to 8.5, which is good for the minerals-laden human body. It’s environmentally friendly and it’s great for filling up your reusable water bottles. We do not provide paper cup nor plastic cup in the studio.
Is it okay to eat before class?
We recommend you don’t eat anything heavy for at least two hours before class. Do drink lots of water. Check out New York Yoga’s Special Edition – Yogi Power Bowls @ BMS Organics cafe & restaurants. We provide yogi’s nutrition needs.
I’m running late for class…
Stuff happens – we totally get it! But unfortunately, we can’t let latecomers in once class has started. Every class starts and ends on time to help provide a peaceful experience for all.
